Dish Network vs Direct TV - Just My Two Cents

Hi everyone,

So, a couple months ago my family and I decided to make a switch. And for me, it was a pretty big deal. I remember back when I was probably nine or 10 years old and cable TV finally came to our neighborhood. At the time, there was this show called Speed Racer that was huge -- one of those Japanese anime deals, in case you haven't seen it. The "cool" kids with cable all got it. The less fortunate among us (i.e. ME), didn't have cable yet. So after weeks of begging my mom to let us get cable installed in our apartment, she finally relented and agreed to pony up the $15 a month. I will never -- and I mean never -- forget the day we were scheduled to have it installed...

If You Want to Jump Right to the Chase...

I'm going to get into the three things you need to know to decide between Dish Network vs Direct TV in a sec, but I know a lot of you will want to jump right in and choose on your own. So here's the deal in a nutshell:

I did a ton of research on this. I mean I researched dozens of websites, each one promising the best deal, best price, best package, most channels, etc., etc.

Most of them are a complete waste of time.

In the end I found really only one site that I trust.

This site is constantly updated, and even has deals on both Dish Network and Direct TV that are submitted by real people like you and me. So instead of having to do all the work yourself, you can let other people all over this big vast world of the Internet do it for you.

Here it is:

So that's the site I'd use if I were in your shoes right now. It proved invaluable to me, and I'm sure you'll find the same.

So Now Back to Our Story

Alas, dear readers, my cable installation never happened that day. I ran home so unbelievably excited to fire up my new cable set up and soak in everything my beloved Speed Racer had to offer. When I burst through the front door, my mom was there to greet me. The installer couldn't set up our cable connection. Turns out he needed permission from the owner of our apartment (remember, we were renting), and she wouldn't give it. Not only that, the next month our rent got raised by the same amount ($15) that we were going to spend on cable. I don't have to tell you how much that sucked.

Anyway, that was years ago, and my cable bill has been steadily rising ever since. That's just one of the reasons I, like millions of others, decided to switch to satellite. It's just a no-brainer. It's a better service, with more HD channels, and it costs less. Where's the decision here exactly? Am I right?

But yes, while choosing between satellite TV and cable isn't hard, choosing between Dish Network and Direct TV is hard.
Like I said, when I did it, I went through dozens of sites trying to compare the two, and the three I mention above are really the ones worth even a minute of your time.

So get cracking with those. I'd say you should probably be able to make a decision in just a couple hours, if not sooner. And if those three sites up at the top of this page don't do it for you (I don't understand how that could be possible, but I guess one never knows), check out some of the other resources below.

Let me know how it turns out, and good luck!
